Renewal of the Intschi – Arnisee cable car

This was built as a power station line, however it is mainly used by tourists and residents today. However, the cable car in the canton of Uri from Intschi up to the Arni-Alp summit was 60 years old and the licence was only valid until 2020. Inauen-Schätti AG and the Seilbahngenossenschaft Intschi-Arnisee worked on various renovation suggestions to improve the cable car in advance. Various options were checked from a simple renovation to building a completely new system. Finally, it was decided to carry out full renovation and maintenance on the existing tramway. In this case the whole power unit and all pulleys were replaced whilst the running gears and cabins were fully renovated on site. Installation of a new fibre-optic telecommunications cable took place as part of installing a new control unit. The 3 lattice towers en-route were rebuilt 1:1 and were therefore completely renewed. The 3 masts were anchored to a depth of around 10m into solid rock (Gotthard granite) using strand anchors.
The cable car can now also be operated from the mountain station. During quieter periods, the cable can be self-operated using a chip. It is in operation all year round, which is appreciated by divers in the icy Arnisee.
